DAVID MCNAMARA
With a lifetime spent in hockey, David saw his dream realized when he won the Stanley Cup as a scout for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009 — but a ring isn't the only thing he brings to PCI; his hockey knowledge and experience run deep.
David played for the Henry Carr Crusaders growing up, then earned degrees from the University of Toronto and Brock University before becoming a teacher. He spent 30 years teaching high school Health and Physical Education while also coaching hockey and baseball.
During that time, David spent 20 years scouting in the NHL — for the Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Pittsburgh Penguins — before shifting to junior hockey as Director of Scouting for the OHL's Owen Sound Attack for five years.
Hockey runs in David's family. His father, Gerry, played for the Toronto Maple Leafs before becoming their Chief Scout — discovering Börje Salming and Inge Hammarström — and later their General Manager, drafting Wendel Clark, Russ Courtnall, and Gary Leeman; in 1989, Gerry won the Stanley Cup as a pro scout with the Calgary Flames. David's brother Bob earned an NCAA scholarship to Notre Dame, played in the Buffalo Sabres organization, and later won a Stanley Cup ring as GM of the Detroit Red Wings' AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. Another brother, John, has scouted for the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets, and currently scouts for the Carolina Hurricanes.
Few families can claim three Stanley Cup rings on the management side of the game — but it's David's teaching and mentoring nature that will help parents and their young players achieve their hockey goals.
